It takes a special kind of person to provide care for the elderly. Limestone City Home Health Care Services employs dozens of extraordinary caregivers who help keep individuals in the comfort of their own homes, while enhancing quality of life.
Julie Blasko and Nadia Keyes recognized a need for reliable, quality home health care, opening the doors to Limestone City Home Health Care in February 2014. The business was originally run out of Julie Blasko’s home, but as clients came on-board and business grew, they opened an office at 1379-B Princess St.
Julie, a Kingston native, and Nadia, who moved to the Limestone City in 2008, were inspired to offer this service due to their strong compassion towards helping people. They wanted to be able to provide the best quality care possible to individuals without broken promises. Hearing complaints and personal stories about homecare gone wrong, the duo wanted to make a difference.
The two are no strangers to providing health care. Nadia is a graduate of the Practical Nursing Program at Algonquin College in Ottawa. She has provided nursing care in an Alzheimer’s unit in Ottawa, for the City of Ottawa, Carleton Lodge Home for the Aged. She worked as an assistant manager in a retirement home, Tally Ho in Carleton Place, and worked for a Kingston-based homecare agency, as well as a cognitive coach through Fit Minds. Not to mention her own personal experiences with Alzheimer`s Disease (witnessing a family member who suffered).
Julie is a graduate of the St Lawrence PSW course, with training in brain injury and dementia care. She has been a personal support worker in long term care for over 14 years. She worked at Extendicare and Trillium Ridge as well she worked in the community assisting individuals remain in their own home.
Through their dedicated and caring staff of over 20 caregivers, four of whom are Registered Practical Nurses, as well as one Registered Nurse, Limestone City Home Health Care provides a long list of services such as; personal care, 24-hour care, palliative care, respite care, housekeeping, house-hold management, meal preparation, companionship, sitting in hospitals and transportation (shopping, medical appointments, errands). Caregivers remain with clients to ensure safety, medication reminders, nursing visits, pre and post-surgery care, pedicure and manicure, foot care, and hair care. If the need of the client is not on this list, it will be added.
Homecare is a big decision and should not be entered upon lightly. They encourage clients to research different agencies to ensure the care provided is consistent, reliable, and friendly. With Limestone, the client is not just a number; they are very important and deserve quality care by a consistent caregiver, allowing for strong, trusting relationships to build. `We are strong believers in promoting independence, holding onto one’s personhood, and focusing on the client abilities versus incapability.
Clients enjoy the fact that the owners pay them bi-weekly/monthly visits. “They like our involvement. We have been told our services providers are friendly and caring and will go above and beyond their scheduled duties. We are a godsend and very much appreciated.”
Limestone City Home Health Care is listed as a provider with the Southeast Health Line, Veterans Affairs Canada, HCAI, and FSCO.
